How To Prevent Conflict When Quarantining Together
It’s easier said than done, we know.
Being stuck inside really gets on our nerves and makes it difficult to not project it on other people in your household.
The entire world’s energy is pretty weird this time.
Social distancing, is by no means, a snow day when you’re just happy and feel blessed to be staying cozily in.
In many large urban areas across the globe, people live with roommates.
Roommates may not always be your best friends and it’s a pretty awkward situation to find oneself in.
On the brightside, being stuck with people you simply cannot stand can teach you patience and stuff about yourself that you didn’t know.
What do you find irritable about that person can be source for some self reflection.
If you chose to already move back into your family’s house, it can also be a tricky situation.
Your parents were well used to no longer having you around and they have their own ways now that you may not be aware of.
If you had difficult parent-child dynamics in the past, this can be a particularly hard time of readjusting. The effects can be coupled up with this weird global crisis tension.
Being stuck with people you simply cannot stand is annoying.
Take Time For Yourself
Make sure to create some time you will dedicate only to yourself.
This is the time to make yourself a priority.
Listen to your intuitive self carefully, and take rest.
Even if it’s just for a few minutes or half an hour, as long as it’s mindful, it will do you so much good.
If You’re At Risk of Domestic Violence
If you are abused, this is no longer called a conflict. If you’re on the receiving side of abuse, you should know it isn’t your fault. Domestic violence organizations have sadly seen an increase in abuse during COVID-19 related lockdowns.
If you’re at risk, please trust your gut feeling, make a safety plan of how you’ll protect yourself if it recurs and contact National Domestic Violence Hotline for help.
Connect With Others In The Same Situation
Everything looks and feels much worse when we feel like we’re in it alone.
But you don’t have to feel alone.
Sharing your experiences with other people in similar situation and building valuable connections with them can definitely be a good part about this pandemic.
